What it's like

Domaine Carneros is built around sparkling wine, and the château terrace is the draw. Visits are seated, appointment-based tastings rather than a walk-up bar. The Daily Tasting runs 60 minutes, and some of the more elaborate experiences stretch to 90.

Who it's best for

This suits anyone who wants to start the day with bubbles and a view, and it's an easy fit for first-time visitors heading north from San Francisco. It's adults-only: everyone must be 21 or older, and infants and children are not permitted. Only service animals are allowed, so leave pets at home.

It isn't the place for a picnic. Outside food is not allowed and there is no picnic area. It also doesn't host weddings or receptions, and professional photography is not allowed on the estate.

What to book

Reservations are required, and you can book through Tock at https://www.exploretock.com/domainecarneros/. The winery is open daily for tastings from 10:00am to 5:30pm, with the last reservation at 5:00pm. You can also text 707-266-5150 or email reservations@domainecarneros.com.

The Daily Tasting Experience is the straightforward starting point. If you want something more themed, the list includes:

  • Bubbles & Bites: Colors of the Caribbean
  • Sparkling Elixir Sampler
  • The Art of Sabrage
  • Plat de Perles
  • The Ultimate Caviar Experience
  • Scent & Savor: A Wine Tour of Aromas and Taste Transformations

Posh Nosh is available daily. Your Ultimate Carneros runs Monday through Friday by appointment. The Art of Sparkling Wine Tour is for club members only, Monday through Friday at 10am. Check current tasting fees for each experience on the winery's booking page before you go.

Parties of nine or more should contact the winery about private visitation options. The winery is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas 2026.

How it fits into a day

Because the first appointments start at 10:00am, this works as a morning stop, especially if you're arriving from the south and want to begin before the valley fills up. Plan for an hour to an hour and a half on site, then continue on to lunch or your next tasting.

Since this is a tasting-focused visit, sort out the driving ahead of time: choose a designated driver, book a tour, or arrange a rideshare. The address is 1240 Duhig Rd., Napa, CA 94559. Cell service and rideshare availability can vary, so arrange your ride back before you start tasting.

Since outside food isn't allowed, plan to eat elsewhere, or consider one of the winery's food-paired experiences.
