What it's like

CADE sits high above the valley floor on Howell Mountain, and the elevation is the point of the visit. The tasting is set at 1,850 feet, and our editor puts the views at 1,800 feet and notes the winery is LEED Gold certified. Expect a calm, seated experience rather than a crowded bar.

The Current Release Tasting runs 60 minutes and pours the current release Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It costs $100 per guest.

Who it's best for

This suits people who want a focused, unhurried tasting with a view, and who like the idea of a white and a red side by side rather than a long flight. It's a good pick if you'd rather spend an hour in one place than hop between several.

It isn't set up for everyone. No guests under 21 are permitted, including infants and children, and pets aren't allowed. Only certified service animals may come onto the property.

Getting there and getting home

The winery is up on the mountain, so allow extra time for the drive. Arrange a designated driver, a hired driver or tour, or a rideshare before you go, and confirm your return plan too, since the way back is part of the trip. Our editor's advice is to book ahead and arrange a driver, and we agree.

How it fits into a day

With a 60-minute seated tasting, CADE works well as an anchor visit instead of a quick stop. Pick an appointment time that gives you a relaxed arrival after the drive up, and leave a little room afterward to enjoy the setting before heading down. We don't have other listings nearby yet, so plan the rest of your day around your own route, and consider a late-morning or early-afternoon slot with lunch before or after.
